What You Need To Know About Affirmative, Online LGBTQ+ Therapy

As a member of the community myself, I love working with LGBTQ+ clients.

I create an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding for queer clients who are on a path of self-discovery and healing.

The world can be hard for queer people

People who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, non-binary (and more) have something fundamental in common. In a world that has been historically heteronormative, members of the LGBTQ+ community have had to fight for their right to exist.

There is a lot of damage that needs to be undone in the therapeutic space for LGBTQ+ individuals. As a member of the community myself, I have experienced the devastating effects of a heteronormative culture that demands we hide who we are.

What Is LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy?

LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy services are those that positively support people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer. Seven percent of the American population are in the LGBTQ community and deserve qualified mental health services.

A licensed therapist who offers LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy understands the negativity people in these communities face and supports them to find joy and peace in their lives throughout their communities while they face mental health challenges.

How Online LGBTQ+ Therapy Sessions Can Help

Finding a therapist can be hard. Finding a therapist with experience that’s applicable to your life can be harder. It’s important to me to specialize in areas of life that are relevant to who I am.

I love working with people who are gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual, queer, non-binary, and more. I see clients learn more about who they are, how to love their identities and grow in their confidence.

Benefits of Online Therapy

There are many benefits of taking care of your mental health using online therapy.

While in-person therapy is the most common, today, many people find solace in being able to meet with mental health providers from the comfort of their homes, especially when dealing with personal matters such as gender identity or sexual orientation.

Meeting with your mental health provider online can help you feel relaxed and able to discuss your mental health issues with ease. You don’t have to worry about the stigma of mental health care or worry that anyone might see you.

You get the same level of care from licensed therapists as you would if you were to have in-person therapy.

In addition, online therapy services are often more convenient for people with busy schedules, the inability to commute, or certain mental health issues that make traveling to the office risky.

Mental Health Conditions Therapy Can Help With

Therapy services can help with various mental health issues, including:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety disorders
  • PTSD
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Eating disorders
  • Addictions
  • Personality disorders

The Goal of Therapy for the Queer Community

lgbtq therapy

My goal is for each of my clients to find happiness, meaning, and joy in their lives. Specifically, for my clients who identify as LGBTQ+, this means that we talk about romantic relationships, family, identity, self-acceptance, and your relationship with the world you live in.

I strive to play a role in helping shape a strong, resilient, loving community of beautiful people who are unafraid to be who they truly are.

How Do We Help Trans Identities?

As a part of the LGBTQ+ community, I can closely relate to the transgender community. I see firsthand what you go through and how you are treated.

My goal in my LGBTQ-friendly therapy space is to provide you with the care and support you deserve. This is not a judgmental space, judging you on your choices.

Instead, I provide the same type of therapy services I would provide anyone from any community. My goal is to help everyone achieve a life filled with joy and love and to feel supported in each therapy session.

How Our Process Works

You’re ready to get support from someone who is in your community. You’re ready to work with someone who accepts and supports you for who you are today.

As a virtual counseling practitioner, I am ready to work with you in the state of North Carolina, on your schedule, at your convenience. My approach is kind, client-centered, and entirely focused on your well-being.

1. Schedule a Free Phone Consultation

A phone consultation lasts around 15 minutes and is a great opportunity to get to know you and how I can best assist you. Once we gather some details, we schedule you for your first session.

2. Talk to Me About How I Can Help

The first intake session will involve getting to know you on a more detailed level.

I’ll ask questions about who you are, your background, your family, your goals for therapy, and your expectations. This will be a time for you to ask me questions and make sure you’re happy and comfortable.

3. Learn To Embrace Your Identity

Let me support you as you navigate a heteronormative world. Let’s celebrate what makes you you. Let’s work together to create a life for you that you love.

At AshTree Counseling, we focus on the patient, not on dealing with insurance companies. Our cost is $120 per session, which is 50 minutes, and we do not accept insurance.

Instead, we work directly with our patients, providing affordable online therapy options to help you address your needs and concerns without worrying about what your insurance provider says you can or cannot do.

What Our Patients Are Saying

“Ashlyn Baker was the first counselor that looked at me like a person with things going on in my life. Not like I am those things.”

“The most helpful aspect of counseling was when Ashlyn could help me identify what I was going through and put my anxiety into words.”

“I was able to have an objective point of view brought into my decision making process that also took my feelings into account, but did not sugar coat her answers.”
